Percent → fraction chart

The percentages worth knowing cold, each with its exact fraction. Where the digits would repeat forever, the percent is written as an exact mixed number — 33 1/3%, not a rounded 33.33% — because a reference chart is the one place to be exact.

Common questions

Why does the chart say 33 1/3% instead of 33.33%?
Because 33 1/3% is exact and 33.33% is not. One third never ends in digits, but it is a perfectly clean fraction of a percent — so the chart writes the exact form, and the decimal column carries the ≈ where rounding happens.
What is the fastest way to convert a percent in your head?
Anchor on the chart’s landmarks: 50% is 1/2, 25% is 1/4, 20% is 1/5, 12.5% is 1/8, 10% is 1/10. Most everyday percentages are one of these or a small multiple — 75% is three 25s, 62.5% is five 12.5s.
Where this comes from. Exact rational arithmetic on the values shown — fractions are pairs of integers until display, and inch–metric conversion uses 25.4 mm to the inch, exact by definition since 1959. See the full methodology.
