- How do I add feet and inches?
- Convert both lengths to inches, add them, then carry every 12 inches back into a foot. 5 ft 3 1/2 in plus 2 ft 9 3/4 in is 63.5 plus 33.75 inches, which is 97.25 inches — 8 ft 1 1/4 in.
- How do I write a length here?
- Any of the ways it is normally written: 5' 3 1/2", 5 ft 3 in, 5'3", 5' 3-1/2", or a plain 63.5 in. Metric works too, so you can add 1610 mm to a length in feet and inches.
- How do I divide a length into equal parts?
- Choose ÷ and put the number of parts in the second box. A 12 ft 6 in run divided into 5 bays is 2 ft 6 in each — and the tool rounds that to your chosen rule so it is a number you can mark.
- Why does the answer sometimes say it was rounded?
- Because thirds of an inch do not land on a tape measure. Dividing 100 inches into 3 gives 33.333… inches; rounded to the nearest 1/16 that is 33 5/16 in, and the tool says so and shows the exact value underneath rather than hiding the difference.
